ATC HOCKEY 8TH ANNUAL OCTOBER MINI-TOURNAMENT

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON - OCTOBER 7/9 2008

Dates:  October 7 – 9, 2008

Where:  Seattle, WA – (well, actually Kent, WA, which is a suburb about 30 minutes south of the city)

Hockey:  We will take the first 64 paid players to form 4 teams of 15 skaters plus goalie.  The first 60 paid skaters and the first 4 paid goalies will have a guaranteed spot on a team.   Non-ATCers are welcome if there are spots available.  Because of the expected high turnout for this tournament and the limitations on teams, the following registration rules will apply:

Players that played in last year’s tournament in Fort Worth, TX will have first priority and a guaranteed spot in this year's tournament.  However, payment MUST be received between before July 31 in order to secure your spot.

• Payment received after July 31 will be on a first-come first-served basis until the maximum player and goalie spots are filled. 

Each player’s ability will be rated according to what you’ve shown in past tournaments and for new players, based on the International ATC Hockey Tournament rating system, found at www.atchockey.com.  We will form teams via some sort of draft, similar to how it has been handled over the past few years.  Teams will be selected on Tuesday.  We will then announce the teams and the tournament schedule at the Tuesday night opening party.  As always, you won’t know who you get to play with until Tuesday night.  We hope to keep the tradition of keeping the teams even! 

Please bring a white and a dark jersey!

Games will consist of three 15-minute stop clock periods with one time-out per team per game...of course no checking, but slap shots and two line passes will be allowed.  We will use the International ATC Hockey 10-point scoring system.  Each team will play 4 games, 2 per day. 

The Rink:  Kent Valley Ice Centre (www.familynightout.com).  The rink is less than five minutes from the hotel.  The hotel shuttle will be available to take you to and from the Rink.  Unfortunately, we cannot have beer in the locker rooms, but there is a café/bar above the ice that will be open before the first game and will have cold beer (usually $2 bottles) and food available at the end of the first game.   Games will begin at either 8:00 or 9:00 depending on the schedule for the local WHL team, the Seattle Thunderbirds.  They use this facility for practice and may need us off the ice earlier in the day.

Registration info:  The tournament entry fee is $80 U.S. per player for 4 games of hockey including refs and scorekeeper.

Transportation:  Hotel Shuttle or a taxi will be available from SeaTac International Airport.  If you choose to rent a car, the hotel is an easy 20 – 30 minute drive from the airport.

Room rate is $99.  20 rooms with 2 Queen beds and 5 King rooms are being held.  Call for your reservation before September 1, 2008 to guarantee this rate.

Nightly Events:     To be announced…all within walking distance or a very short drive.  Obviously we’d like to limit your need to drive as much as possible.  We have made the decision to NOT plan an event in downtown Seattle.  We will be happy to recommend some local hot spots, should you choose to venture out.  Please keep in mind; DUI laws in Washington are very tough.  If you’re going to drink, please designate a driver or take a cab.

Weather:  The weather can be a bit iffy at that time of year.  You will most likely want jeans/long pants and at least a light jacket…as you can imagine it just might rain on you while you’re here. 

Other:  The hotel is located on a public golf course.  Hockey will wrap up early in the afternoon both days.  If you’d like to golf, contact Chris Schenk (contact info below).  Chris will be organizing tee times or possibly a tournament.
